Rick "Hurky" Michael Hopkins

Rick Michael Hopkins also known as Hurky to his dirt bike family, passed away September 19, 2020, at home with his loved ones, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Rick was born on December 6, 1954 in Lancaster California. Rick enlisted in the Navy after finishing high school. He became a corpsman where he spent 6 years in active duty. He then moved to Fresno where he worked various jobs. Rick decided to make the move with one of his friends to the small town of Silver Lake in 1981 where he later began working on the Bell A ranch for many years as a ranch hand and met his best friend Dennis Buermann. Rick then met the love of his life, Tammy Anderson, in Silver Lake in 1986. It was love at first site. In August of 1989 Rick and Tammy had their first born, Clay and two years later welcomed their daughter Shelby into the world. The kids were Ricks pride and joy from the moment they came into the world, to the minute he left this world. Rick went to work for Ed Staub and Sons April 1st, 1990 and Tammy joined their team about a year later. Rick and Tammy remained a team at Ed Staub and Sons for over 30 years and formed many of their amazing friendships with local customers and coworkers. Rick and Tammy then resided in La Pine and made their beautiful house their home until Ricks passing. Rick was an avid motocross racer since he was a young adult, and that passion carried on until he got sick at the age of 65, which still did not stop him from watching his buddies from the side of the track. Rick was known as "moto dad" to numerous kids and spent almost all his time taking them to tracks, and teaching anyone who had the same passion how to ride. His favorite riding buddy was always his son Clay. Rick made some of his absolute best friendships, and memories through moto. Rick was also an avid hunter of all sorts. He spent every single elk season with his second family, the Buermann brothers. Whether hunting, or just playing cards with the guys, it was a time that Rick truly looked forward to every single year. Rick also always had a bird dog to take bird hunting over the years. He enjoyed taking his boat out to the lakes and fishing as well. Anything to do with the outdoors, and being with friends, you could bet Rick would be there. Rick was preceded in death by his mom Ginetta, his Father Ken and his sister Sherry. He is survived by his beautiful wife Tammy, his children Clay and Shelby, his brother Bob, and sister in law Sherry, brother in law Tony, Sister in law Trixie, and his nephews, and nieces. Rick's legacy would be to always work hard, but always play harder. It would be to live your life to the fullest, love your family and friends, and make everyone you encounter smile. If you knew Rick, you know he made everyone around him laugh. Rick was a Christian and passed at peace knowing he would be going to heaven and would one day see all his family and friends again. Ricks family will be holding a memorial service for him at the Silver Lake Oregon community park on October 3,2020 at 1pm. Following the service there will be a short graveside service for those who wish to join. Immediately after that there will be a dinner provided and a time to laugh and tell stories like Rick always liked to do. God Speed 863, in our hearts forever.
