Lewis Richter

Bend, Oregon Lewis N. Richter 80 passed away in Bend, Oregon December 6, 2015. He was born in Garibaldi, Oregon on July 14, 1935 to Mathias and Margaret Richter. Louie graduated from North Marion high school in 1954 and voted "Most Valuable Football Player" in his Junior and Senior years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1957 and was stationed in England, Libya and North Africa. Lew worked as a millwright/carpenter and boiler operator from 1959-1966 at Pilot Rock Lumber Company. From there he was employed at Pendleton Fire Department from 1967 1992 as a Firefighter/EMT, and was one of the first EMT-3s in Umatilla County and flew on the Lifeguard III helicopter. Hobbies were honey bees, racing pigeons and coaching Little League baseball in Pendleton for 9 years. He loved being in the outdoors with family, fishing, hunting and mushrooming. He spent hours in his garden and his yard. Lew was a past member of the Elks, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and VFW in Pendleton and Union. He was a member of the Catholic church and served as a Eucharistic Minister in Pendleton and in Union. Lew volunteered delivering Meals On Wheels and at the LaGrande Senior Center. Survivors are: Joe (Kristi) Richter of Bend; Nick (Chris) Richter of Meridian, Idaho; stepson Jim Tindol of Boston, MA; stepdaughters Shannon (Ben) Peal of Weston, Oregon and Dawn (Pat) Seggerman of Island City, Oregon; daughter-in-law Tammy Richter; Grandchildren: James, Jenna, Amy, Zachary, Isaac, Maddie, Sydney, Blane; great grandchildren: Madeleine, Jameson, Liliana; brother Ken Richter of Union; twin sister Lorraine Gianella, Woodburn; Sisters Dorothy Koebel of Donald, Mary Erb, Woodburn; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded him in death was his wife of 26 years Carolyn Richter; son Matt Richter; "his little angel" Molly, grandson Hunter Seggerman; brother Allen Richter, brother in law George Koebel, nephew Kenny Richter Jr; and parents Mathias and Margaret Richter. A private viewing and rosary will be held December 10, 2015 at 4pm at Niswonger Reynolds of Bend. A graveside service in Cove, Oregon will be held in the spring of 2016. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to one of the following: Pendleton Fire Department Toy Drive or Meals on Wheels or your local Hospice.
