Arthur C. Ophoff

Bend, Oregon Arthur C. Ophoff, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away into the fullness of eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 5, 2016. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Beverly, and children Daniel (Patricia) Ophoff, Ruth (Ross) Kladder, Arthur C (Karen) Ophoff, and Steven Ophoff. He was a loving grandpa to 11 and great-grandfather to 17. Beverlys children, Paul and Debi, and their families will also deeply miss him. Art is also survived by a sister, Ardis (Don) Estell, a brother-in-law, Ralph TenHave, and sisters-in-law, Shirley TenHave, and Ruth (Hank Telgenhof) Hoekstra. Arthur was predeceased by his wife Jean in October, 2006, after more than 60 years of marriage. Art and Jean had a passion for leading others to Christ and actively served in various ministries together. Art led many mens Bible studies and mentored men and their families right up until God called him home. Arthur C. Ophoff was born on July 1, 1925, to Arthur and Clara Ophoff in Muskegon, Michigan, moving to Grand Rapids when Art was five. He attended Calvin College and the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1947. Art and his brother Earl established a dental practice in 1950 until their retirement in 1983. The brothers interrupted their dental practice when called for duty in the Air Force in 1952. They were stationed together in Tokyo, Japan, and resumed dentistry after 18 months of active duty. Earl predeceased Art in 1998. For many years, Art enjoyed participating in the Calvin Alumni Players performances of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. He also served on the board of what is now Youth Unlimited, several years as its president, and was active in Young Life leadership roles for 17 years as well. In December, 2009, Art married Beverly Sallee. Two years ago, Art and Beverly decided to discontinue maintaining homes in two states and moved to Bend, Oregon, near to Beverlys family and church home. For almost seven years they ministered to others as God led them, modeling an active prayer life and encouraging their children and grandchildren in their walk with God. All through his life, Art Ophoffs hearts desire was to love God and to live his life joyfully with that as the foundation. He passed that on to his loved ones, challenging them to love and serve God and others, and that is his legacy. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1:00 PM in the Regency Village (Formerly Summit) 127 SE Wilson, Bend, OR. A memorial with military honors will be held November 20, 2016 at 2 p.m., at Keystone Community Church, 655 Spaulding, Ada MI.
