Loy Samples

Loy Samples passed away peacefully Friday, July 29, 2021, at Mt. Bachelor Memory Care in Bend, Oregon. She was blessed to be surrounded by loved ones in her last days. Loy was born October 8,1941 to Lloyd and Mildred Clark in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Loy met her husband, Vern Samples, in 1957 while Vern was stationed at Fort Bragg and she was in high school in Southern Pines, North Carolina. They married in 1959 where the young couple moved to Madras, Oregon. Soon followed the birth of their daughter Arden and son Shane. Loy and Vern later moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon where their third child, Andrew was born. Loy found joy doing ceramics and bridge with her friends. Dressing up for parties and being silly in Halloween costumes bringing laughter to others. Moving next and finally to reside in Redmond, Oregon she became active in Welcome Home activities for those new to town and playing bridge with her friends. She also welcomed her fourth child Kiley. As her children grew up, Loy found clog as her passion creating the Sunshine Exchange Cloggers in Central Oregon for over 30 years. She instructed workshops where she did the choreography and became a nationally known clogger twice invited to perform at National Clogging convention. Many local performances for professional organizations and community events. Loy was active at the Tom McCall school for special needs providing class, doing movement and dance weekly. She was most proud that the young students won first place in the school talent show. Loy loved her family and friends while always being true to herself. This included taking time to go to New York to see as many Broadway plays as she could and saving every billboard. She loved the arts, dancing, and music. She is survived by her sister Lillian Rooks, brother Tom Clark, daughter Arden Owens, sons Shane, Andrew and Kiley Samples and respective spouses Lori, Anna, and Carla Samples, 14 grandchildren (Bret - deceased 6/18, Zach, Audra, Evan, Victoria, Katie, Hayden, Sydney, Clark, Drew, Ridge, Sage, Macy, Dasha, David) and 12 great grandchildren.
