John Edward Hoey

John Edward Hoey of Bend, OR passed from this life on June 16, 2023. Mr. Hoey was born April 19, 1936 in Vallejo, CA, the son of John Martin Hoey and Ruth Alice (Reed Prout) Hoey. John had four siblings: Margaret Mary; Owen (Bud) Raymond; Paul Francis; and Ruth Ann Theresa. John graduated St. Vincent's High School in Vallejo, CA 1954. He graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Physics. Lieutenant John Hoey served 1959-1962 in the Army Ordnance Corp at Fort Knox, KY and Germany. Mr. Hoey worked for Beckman Instruments 1963-1967. He worked 21 years, 1968-1989 for Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA as a Nuclear Engineer, retiring in 1989. John married Catherine Joan Douse in 1958 and together raised five children: June Marie, Patricia Ann, Nancy Jane, Susan Carol, and David Joseph, until divorced in 1982. He was active in Knights of Columbus, and St. Catherine of Siena Church, Vallejo, CA. John married Davis Ann (Pray) Seeley in 1985, and they enjoyed retirement in Bend, OR (from Napa, CA) from 1989 until Davis Ann died in 2017. Davis Ann Seeley raised three children: Brian Keith, Cheryl Ann, and Ralph Dorian, who are John's stepchildren. John enjoyed camping and RVing, fishing, hiking, cross country skiing, reading and family. He was a member of Central Oregon Fly Fishers Club. John volunteered many years of service to deliver meals for Meals on Wheels of Bend, OR. He volunteered for Hospice, often delivering flowers to patients. Mr. Hoey was preceded in death by his father John M. Hoey and mother Ruth A. Hoey; his older sister Margaret, her husband Bruno Mainini of Vallejo, CA, their daughter Francis (Terry) Hawk of Walnut Creek, CA, and their son, Christopher Mainini of Vallejo, CA; his older brother Owen (Lorraine) Hoey of Vallejo, CA; his brother-in-law Ronald (Dorothy) Fagundes, of Napa, CA; his brother-in-law John (Ruth) Walsh of Mendocino, CA; son-in-law Dennis (Nancy) Anderson of Vacaville, CA; son-in-law Robert (Patricia) Leslie of Quincy, CA; son-in-law Wesley (June) Brisco of Vallejo, CA; stepson Ralph Seeley of Cameron Park, CA; grand stepson Tyler Seeley of Orangevale, CA; and his wife Davis Ann Hoey of Bend, OR. Mr. Hoey is survived by his sister Ruth Walsh; brother Paul Joey, and sister-in-law Ann Hoey; sister-in-law Lorraine Hoey; sister-in-law Dorothy Fagundes; ex-wife Catherine Hoey; his children June Brisco, Patricia Leslie, Nancy (Bruce) Tillotson, Susan (David) Lee, and Lt. Col. David (Heather) Hoey - retired. John is also survived by two stepchildren Brian (Kate) Seeley, and Cheryl Dawn. Joh is survived by his very dear friend, Pat Elliott of Bend, OR. John is Grandfather/Papa to 14 grandchildren: Patrick B., Jacob, Brian, Julie, Melissa, Georgeanna, Patrick D., Brittany, Michelle, Mitchell, Matthew, Erin, Alex, and Christopher. Joh is Great-Grandfather to nine: Suzannah, Mariah, Rae, Wyatt, Jermaine, Hayleigh, Darren, Brooke, and Rowan. John is Great-Great-Grandfather to two: Damien and Nova. John is Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. At John's request no funeral or memorial services will be held. If interested, John identified memorial contributions may be made to Partners In Care - Hospice of Bend, OR; Meals on Wheels of Bend, OR; or a charity of your choice. John E. Hoey was respected for his kind-hearted nature and integrity, and was loved by many. John prays God's fullest blessings for all who touched his life.
