Jean Rae Mitchell

After a brave, three-year battle with ovarian cancer, Jean Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, with her loving husband by her side. In the hours leading up to her passing, Jeans family and dear friends surrounded her with love, comfort and prayer. Jean was born on August 7, 1950 to John and Myrtle Caldwell in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She attended Henley High School and graduated in 1968, and married the love of her life, George Mitchell, in 1969. In 1974, they started their family with the birth of their son, Jason; and in 1978 grew their loving family with the addition of their daughter, Sarah. In 1981, they moved to Bend, Oregon to raise their family and build their community. Jean started a wallpaper business in Bend while being a devoted wife and adoring mother. Jean enjoyed traveling in the RV with her husband, reading, sewing, water-skiing, and studying the Bible. She was very proud of her deep family history homesteading the Rogue River Ranch on the Rogue River at the mouth of Mule Creek. Jean was truly the happiest when spending time with her three, young granddaughters. They describe their Nana as the most fun, loving, grandmother who always listened to them, played with them, and made everything special. Jean created art with her girls, taught them to sew, and encouraged them to always think on their own. She was a devote Christian and member of the Full Gospel Faith attending Christian Life Center in Bend. Jean will be most missed for her loving, patient, authentic, and compassionate spirit. Jean was very true and honest to herself and everyone in her life. She accepted everyone. She did not judge. And, she never tried to change anyone. She quietly listened, comforted and loved her family and friends. Her son, Jason, often called her St. Jean. Jean is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Sarah; granddaughter, Marina; daughter-in-law, Ren; granddaughters, Adeline and Ruby Grace; and brother, John Caldwell. Jean was predeceased by her parents, John and Myrtle Caldwell; and her son, Jason. A memorial service to celebrate Jeans beautiful and giving life will be held on Sunday, March 9, at 3:00 pm at the Christian Life Center in Bend. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted by St. Charles Hospital Foundation: Infusion Room Program in honor of Jean Mitchell. This program was started by George and Jean to ensure nourishing snacks and beverages for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy treatment.
