Elmer Edward McGraw

In Loving Memory of Elmer Edward McGraw May 3, 1934 - December 15, 2022 On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Elmer Edward McGraw, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 88, he was surrounded with love by his family. Elmer was born on May 3, 1934, in Salmon, Idaho to Everett and Eva McGraw. He grew up and attended school in May, Idaho. Elmer enlisted in the US Army and and was stationed in Korea from 1955 to 1957. Elmer came to Oregon with his Uncle Ralph, who was like a brother to him, and settled in Sweet Home, Oregon and worked at Bauman Sawmill. Elmer made his way and planted roots in Bend, Oregon where he worked as a De-Barker Operator at Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company from 1958 until the sawmill was closed in 1994. He then worked for Crown Pacific Lumber in Redmond, Oregon until he retired in 1998. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn, his sons Kenneth and Brad, his first wife Carmen Birchell, and second wife Sandra Henderson. Elmer is survived by his wife of 47 years (Betty), his children Kim McClain (Pat), Judi Norris (Tom), Tina Roberts (Russ), Brett McGraw (Lorraine), Cary Sims (Tami), his brother Everett "Jack" McGraw (Melva), his sister Ellen Gilliam (Clint), along with many nieces and nephews, 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren that will surely miss getting their ears pulled by him. Elmer and Betty often traveled south each winter to chase those warm sun rays. He enjoyed being active outdoors which included frequent walks and bike rides. Woodworking was one of his many talents, and if it was broken, you bet he could fix it! His favorite past time was sitting out front in his chair soaking up the sunshine and keeping an eye on the neighborhood. If you drove by you could always count on a wave and a smile. He was a very quiet man with deep strength and stability. A special thanks to our step-mother Betty who loved him deeply and took such good care of him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Partners in Care Hospice. There will be a private family service and celebration of life at a later date.
