Donald R. Dehaan

Donald R. Dehaan was born in 1926 to Henry and Myrtle Dehaan of Duluth, Minnesota. He was the second of four children, including Richard, Janet, and Robert. At 17 years of age during WWII, Don joined the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific on the USS Warhawk. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jean ("Bunny") in 1946. They moved to Oregon in 1947 with their first child, Cindy, followed by Sandra, Patrice, and David. Don and his brother, Bob, raced stock cars in the Pacific Northwest, winning the championship in 1953. He worked for General Motors as a claims adjuster, then joined the Allstate Insurance Company as an agent in 1960. Don was promoted several times into management positions with Allstate and helped start a new insurance company in Japan. Don and Bunny lived in Tokyo for five years before retiring from Allstate in 1984. He subsequently worked for two Silicon Valley start-up companies, AutoTrak and XImage. Don and Bunny lived in San Ramon, California for 12 years, where the people of the Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church became as family to them. In the year 2000, they moved to Rocklin, California. More recently they built a home and relocated to Bend, Oregon to be closer to members of their family. Don and Bunny have three sons-in-law: Gil, Ron, and Wayne; eight grandchildren: Christopher (Julie), David, Scott (Jenny), Ethan, Brynn (Shawn), Joshua (Fabienne), Sarah (Eric), and Daniel; and three great-grandchildren: Taylor, Cassidy, and Alana. Don loved little children and dogs and felt that anyone who did not feel likewise should not be trusted. Don and Bunny were best of friends and partners for an incredible 68 years. They attribute their survival and success to each other. Dons kindness, gratitude, and positive outlook persisted even as his body weakened from Alzheimers disease. Don died at home with Bunny and family by his side, and was gathered into the arms of his Lord and Savior.
