Dolores Jean Groves

Dolores J. Groves died peacefully on the evening of June 6 at her home in Bend Oregon at the age of 87. In the last days of her life, she was surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Dolores was born in Detroit Michigan on January 30, 1927; she graduated from Detroits Denby High School in 1945 and was a Michigan resident for 56 years. She was married to Richard L. Groves for 43 years before his passing in 1991. Together, Dolores and Richard have four sons, Richard F. Groves and David Groves of Bend, OR; Brian Groves of Newberg, OR and Christopher Groves of Fowler, Michigan. She has twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Dolores has lived in Central Oregon since 1983. She was a long time, dedicated volunteer for the homeless through St. Vincent de Paul Society and at the Sacred Art of Living Center in Bend. She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi, Bend and St. Edward the Martyr Catholic Church in Sisters. Dolores remained a spiritual seeker throughout her life and loved participating in readings and workshops that supported her personal growth and her relationship with God. Dolores family was the center of her life. A life-time of love and energy was spent supporting her many special relationships. She made sure that every birthday and holiday was remembered and celebrated. After her husbands disability, she became Richard Sr.s full time caregiver for many years. Everyone loved Dolores amazing energy, wit and generous spirit. It is not an exaggeration to say that Dolores made a deep and loving impression on the people who became part of her life. A vigil service and viewing will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the chapel of Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home in Bend. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Edward the Martyr Catholic Church in Sisters at 10 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
