Cynthia Ann Egli

Bend, Oregon A rare and beautiful soul passed from this life to the next on August 28, 2016, when long-time Bend resident Cindy Egli died of endometrial cancer. Cindy was born in Inglewood, California, to Ellen Rosenthal Skulich; her father, Matt Skulich, died in an accident shortly before Cindy birth. Cindy moved to Bend with her mother, brother and sister in 1964. When Cindy was only 5, she became her Mothers Little Helper after Ella married Otis Burgess and gave birth to twin boys. Cindy was a typical tomboy and enjoyed almost anything active. She loved all sports, but especially swimming and participated in the Bend Swim Club and the Mountain View and Bend High swim teams. In 1979 she met her best friend and future life partner Jake Egli. The couple married at St. Francis of Assisi in 1982 and moved to Portland to finish their educations. Cindy worked at Lewis and Clark College and Oregon Health Sciences University while attending Portland State University, where she studied History and French (she had a natural gift for languages). She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree. Cindy and Jake welcomed their first child, Andrew Michael, in 1986, all while renovating a craftsman bungalow on Portlands east side. Cindy, Jake and Andrew returned to Bend in 1987 and, in 1988, the Eglis welcomed their second son, Matthew Alexander to the family. In that same year, Cindy began working at Saxons Fine Jewelers as a part-time bookkeeper. The job gradually grew along with the business, and Saxons became Cindys career as well as her second family for the next 27 years. Cindy never lost her life-long love of all things active, as over the years she continued to swim, jog and ski. She took up aerobics, often worked out at the gym, and went on countless walks and hikes with Jake. While in her forties, Cindy discovered a new passion, yoga. She was a natural, and she continued to practice yoga until she became ill. Cindy also loved to travel, and was enthralled with European history and culture. In the last 12 years of her life, Cindy travelled with Jake to Ireland, Mexico, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Great Britain. No sooner would Cindy return from one adventure than would she start to plan the next. But Cindys true passion was always her family. She loved having children, and was a dedicated, passionate and fiercely protective mother. She loved her home and was a devoted friend and caring partner to her husband. Cindy is preceded in death by her natural father and her beloved nephew, Christopher Smoldt. She is survived by her husband Jake and sons Andrew and Matthew, her parents Otis and Ella Burgess, sister Jeanne Smoldt, brothers Nick Skulich and Dan and David Burgess, sister-in-kind Jayna Combs, many nieces and nephews, and the many friends who loved her. We will all miss her so much! Graveside services will be held at 11AM, Sept. 8 at Pilot Butte Cemetery; a Celebration of Life will be held on the afternoon of Oct. 3 at Aspen Hall. A memorial fund has been established under Cindys name at the Bank of the Cascades. All contributions will be distributed to Cindys favorite charities.
