Clyde Walter Browning

Clyde Walter Browning, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully on October 10, 2024 in Sisters, Oregon. He was 96 years old. Born to Donald and Helen Browning in Roseville, Ohio on March 21, 1928, Clyde was the second of 6 children. He grew up working on the family farm. After graduating from high school, Clyde worked in retail selling shoes, often saying, “you learn a lot about people selling shoes.” Soon after, he enlisted in the Air Force serving in New Mexico and Colorado and was honorably discharged in 1951. He went to work for Montgomery Ward in sales in Denver, and was promoted then transferred, and promoted and transferred again to Sioux City Iowa. He moved from the Midwest to California in 1956. While in the Sacramento area, Clyde owned and operated two drive-in restaurants, a restaurant and a bar. He “enjoyed building businesses from the ground up.” He also sold cars and RVs. He was recruited by Skyline Corporation to Hemet, California in sales in 1966. It was a time in his life he really enjoyed. He was promoted to Sales Manager and transferred to McMinnville, Oregon, in 1969, where he was soon promoted to Division Manager. Clyde bought Resort Realty in Sunriver, Oregon in 1983, and got his real estate license later that same year. In 1986, he franchised with Coldwell Banker. His office was recognized for over a decade as a top performer for Coldwell Banker nationwide. Throughout his time in real estate, Clyde enjoyed mentoring, working with, and learning from his peers. Clyde cared deeply about Sunriver, and he loved the environment of the high desert. Clyde lived with “no regrets”, and followed his heart. He loved driving his Cadillacs, but his greatest passion in life was flying, and he enjoyed over 40 years of being a pilot. He especially liked the opportunity to fly with friends and family in his small plane, and enjoyed trips all over the country. His fondest memories were the births of his two children, Joni and Larry, and his first vacation to Sunriver in 1971. Clyde will be remembered for his love of animals (especially dogs and horses), his integrity, great sense of humor, strong drive and work ethic, and for his contributions to his family and his community. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; Donald and Helen, siblings; Ted, Donna, and Paul, and his daughter; Joni (Dregseth). Clyde is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan; brothers, Jerry and Glen; son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Lori; grandchildren, Erin and Dustin; as well as several nieces and nephews. His legacy also lives on through the many dear friends he considered family
